At least it's a better signal (cross polar flow) to be sure now that we've got the Pacific "right" on the EPS. A more active storm track and you don't need overwhelming cold to deliver in January. Something to track.

Good sign to see the Euro going to it first. Sometimes Euro likes to put troughs too far west so need to watch trend but things could trend even better with time.

I do like seeing some se ridging on the EPS, if the euro is right about the trough in the west, some resistance from the se ridge ( not too much though) would be a good thing as it usually leads to any overrunning pattern

GFS looks like its starting to move torward the euros idea somewhat, this 18z run has a much improved pacific pattern with the aleutian ridge getting crushed , new ridge popping off the west coast

I mentioned 84/85 analog as one to watch a few weeks back and low and behold Bastardi posted it earlier today. That was a very warm December for Texas in particular during this timeframe but January turned quite cold.

In fact for those that remember Jan 85 was a winter to remember for Texas in particular SC TX and SA when we saw our highest snowfall on record. In fact we had two snow events in early Jan and then the big thump came mid January..

I know Bastardi chases analogs routinely but at least it's in the mix.

This is the video created by the NWS office in Austin/San Antonio pertaining to the monster snowfall event but the smaller snowfall event came on January 2nd. As bad as Feb 2021 was, the Jan 1985 still stands as the highest snowfall ever recorded to impact San Antonio. I was 7 years old but what a month!

Yeah I get he may not be for everyone but I respect anyone who makes a call (wrong or not) and defends it. Yes, like many in this industry everyone misses now and then. He definitely has his biases to be sure and sometimes I think that hurts his credibility a bit.

I don't know about "blowhard" but in terms of "chasing views" he does help run a weather platform so not unusual for folks who make a living off that to market/push their companies in such a competitive industry that now requires it.

My personal view is to each their own. If you don't like it, you can always go elsewhere.
