Front is making way through panhandle and Oklahoma.

We get a 2 day reprieve then another 4-5 day stretch of above to much above normal (60s/70s to ring in the New Year) At least lows will be 40s. It is the week after we may see a more active weather pattern.

Front came through. Windier than most fronts here (15 mph gust), usually we have very little wind once the initial front is in. 1 inch of snow and 18 degrees. This was some cold air behind it for such a little guy coming through. We had a forecast for 4-5" inches when the trough was an open wave, but it tightened up into a closed low and the only real precip we got was from jet induced banding. Many different ways to skin a cat up here. Nice to see something opn the ground again. We need ALOT more moving forward.

I noted the past week we will have to deal with the jet extension. That head-fakes of cold would occur the first week by models and thus far is holding true which is why models are losing some cold in source region, washes out to the east. Which is why we are still seeing above normal temps next week. The next step is to get the Pac jet to go equatorward after the extension is when ridging goes up poleward and by mid month a favorable Pacific.

Yeah, we're going to have to be very patient at the moment. I'm storming through analogs right now. Starting simple. Looking at Denvers warmest years. 1957-'58 has caught my eye. Looking at this analog currently.

Ensembles continue to look even better, more stout - EPO signal, and a very favorable trough position on the GEFS/ GEPS if you want winter fun across the state, long ways to go, but cant deny that things are looking pretty good mid january and beyond

While we wait on the front further south tonight, talk about a roller-coaster week ahead...40's tomorrow for highs and GFS pushing 87 by Friday. Texas weather!

It's another piece of evidence, along with the ensembles by mid month the Pacific becomes favorable. Likely some -EPO with an active storm track.

Trends basically look increasingly favorable for real winter to make an appearance for the southern plains by mid month and potentially beyond.

Way too early to get into details obviously beyond that but as the discussion has been hinting on here the last few days we're looking at a pattern shift from the current one we've been locked under throughout December.

I was driving West from Prosper towards Ponder on 380 and the temperature jumped to about 85° and then back down to 70 shortly thereafter as we continued to head West. The winds picked up too, so basically we hit the front and I guess compressional heating made the temperature rise abruptly and then it dropped suddenly as soon as we passed through it. It was pretty cool, even my kids noticed it on the thermometer in the car.

Some photos from a bit of a surprise snow squall warning up here. Only got a half inch but pretty heavy for a bit. Hate the hassle of uploading photos but folks need some cheer. Took like 15 minutes to get a link that worked. lol.

Stuck to some streets despite being 75 yesterday.
