Casey Kasem to retire

#1 Postby Lindaloo » Sun Jan 04, 2004 12:18 pm

Unbelievable!!! I have been listening to his American Top 40 show since 1979. His long distance dedications have touched me more than once over the years. The man, the voice and the show will be missed by me.

An interesting fact that I did not know. He is the voice of Shaggy on the cartoon show Scooby Doo.

I actually knew something others on this board didn't???

That is sad to see him go. I listened frequently through the late 90's. Then I became a country fanatic and quit. Any word on who will be trying to fill his shoes? It will be nearly impossible.

Me either!! And I'm usually pretty good at recognizing those cartoon voices.

Did anybody ever hear that one outtake of him throwing a huge fit over the producers putting in a dedication to a dead relative after an upbeat song? Hilarious! It ended with him saying, "Ponderous... #*$&ing ponderous!"

Think I'll remember that line from him more than anything... :D

Dick Clark did this past New Year's; so yes he is still doing the Rockin' New Year's celebrations in NYC. :)

Yep Josh he sure did. I still miss American Bandstand! :(

SG.... when they played a clip of Shaggy speaking, it does not even sound like Casey. I would have NEVER guessed that one in a million years. lol.

LMAO!!! I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!

Difference between Michael Jackson and Dick Clark...

Dick Clark's plastic surgeon knew what he was doing.

Interesting fact, indeed...

Casey Kasem certainly doesn't sound like the voice of Scooby Doo... but then again a lot of voice-over and narrators have "more than one voice."

I always think of Peter Thomas when I think of people with this sort of job. Peter Thomas narrates just about every Nova on PBS, that was made in the 1980's..... which was and still is, for that matter produced at WGBH-TV 2-Boston. :)

As a side note, we usually don't see most narrators and those that do voice-overs; such as the voices on our local news stations. :D

He was also the voice of Robin on the "Superfriends" cartoon. Danny Dark (IMO, the best-ever "voice" of NBC) was Batman.

I used to listen to the American Top 40 radio show throughout the 80's. Casey Kasem did a wonderful job with that.
