bla bla bla bla.. Will why dont you ever just give your opinion.. Why asks everyone elses and not give answer your own question at least? This is what causes people to get iritaed with you imo... You wnat to ask other peoples opinion just so you can argue that there wrong. If this isnt true then thats just fine, Im just telling you how you portray yourself, but I would guess you already knew that before you posted this

My whole point is the United states has rules of engagement. Yep there are isolated incidents of situations like you spoke of but we are civilized unlike the terrorists. BTW slavery has nothing to do with this discussion. I know this is off topic...but that was a bit OFF topicWillh wrote:In Vietnam we took people up on helicopters, tossed their friend off and said to the other...if you don't speak, you're next. They spoke...and when finished, were tossed off.Rainband wrote:We don't fly planes into buildings and kill innocent civilians.
We don't take hostages and threaten to kill them.
We don't burn people after they are dead and mutilate their bodies.
We don't use religion to murder people and that very same religion.
Doesn't take much more common sense than that to show the difference
In Vietnam we often razed entire villages, killing everyone...children included.
In the gulf war, we blocked a near 100 mile strip of highway at both ends and then went in and bombed the living crap out of everything. No thought was put into differentiating the civilians from the enemy.
In the 1800's we often rubbed smallpox on blankets and then gave them to Native Americans.
Back in the 1600's through the 1800's, our country allowed the enslavement of people for no better reason than their ethnicity.
Countless were murdered, raped, and tortured.
Stories of this nature go on and on.
These stories are not evidence of the inherent evil of people...but of people pushed by fear.
These people, Al Qaeda, are no different than us.
What about the Japanese lining children up 70 or so years ago and then taking turns to see who could lop the mose heads off at one time with a sword?

I think he has more than adequately displayed his opinion on the subject.

Because I wanted to stimulate discussion, as opposed to posting my views and have everything afterward be coloured by my original post. I don't know why it would matter, however.chadtm80 wrote:bla bla bla bla.. Will why dont you ever just give your opinion.. Why asks everyone elses and not give answer your own question at least? I think this deserves a repost!

Terrorists use tactics that work for them.
Now, that being a dispassionate brief on tactics, the issue of who is right and who is wrong is an entirely different story:
I feel that the modern terrorists are slime sucking, filthy, smelly, bad guys, who should go back to herding camels. But they are not stupid, and they are not cowardly. Brainwashed? Maybe. Indoctrinated? Definitely. They are acting within their beliefs and world view. They are dedicated to their cause and happy to die for it. That makes them a formidable enemy. One key to winning a conflict is knowing the enemy. Calling them names is Monty Pythonesque.
We believe that we are right, they believe that they are right. Of course we are right! If we don't think that we are right, what's the point of anything?

However, the Patriots used these tactics to defend their homes, families and their own lives. Terrorists attack without provocation.

No, they think we're attempting to destroy their religion and force our culture on theirs.Stephanie wrote:

from your point of view. maybe just maybe the terrorist actually are threatened by our power, and believe that we threaten there way of life. you do know that the American Revolution was not popularly supported immediately. I don't agree with them, as I believe they see us in the wrong light, but I do believe they (in their own view) see us as provoking them with our influence on the region.

Agreed, it is all about perception. Of course anyone with a rational mind (and/or a natural bias) can see that they are delusional, but the fact remains that within their minds this is how the world is and they act on their own view of life. It does not make it right, but it does make it understandable (as to why they do it).

Think of it this way.
The western hemisphere and our way of life is overtaking the entire world. Think of our materialism...Mcdonalds, Coca Cola, MTV, etc. These things have established branches around the world.
A lot of places, however, see this as decay and as something that will destroy the world for their sons, daughters and gradn children. They feel they must take arms to prevent this from happening.
