Exile has long been used to control despots and remove them from their positions of power. This is not a new precedence...get it right!
g-with saddams govt completely intact, they wil be able to create instability in iraq. we did it right in 1945. we totaaly eradicated the previous regimes in germany and japan. can you imagine the chaos that would have ensued if the nazis had been allowed to be free in comfy exhile?
Read your history! In both cases, a significant number of both German and Japanese regimes were kept as part of the reconstruction efforts in both countries. Only a few of the leadership were brought to trial. In the case of the Japanese, most of their chemical and biological scientists were given a free ride to jump start our own chemical and biological weapons programs. A dark day in our history for sure but a fact!

If Saddam is exiled with his money (which we are offering, by telling Saddam to leave or face war), he will still be able to sponser terrorists. Saddam needs to be tried as a war criminal, not just deposed of power

The biggest difference will be that he won't have chemical and biological weapons to give to them. I doubt that Saddam will accept exile but it is an option he may choose. What we don't know are the terms of an exile so to speculate about it without the facts is pointless.

reports are that saddam has already transfered 7 billion out of iraq. also, the families of big shots have been leaving for some time. i have the sinking feeling bush is going to allow a terrorist a life of luxury

No, rainstorm. We're not serious about the "war" on terrorism. It was all a big joke. Bush was just teasing about getting bin laden and he's secretly friends with Saddam.

Come on! Why do you even make ridiculous statements like that? This is a very serious situation. You said that Bush's speech will be a joke? Who's side are you on anyway?

in both cases you cite the leadership of both govts were hanged. further,
many more officials in germany were tried by german courts. i would be quite satisfied to see saddam , his sons, and his chief henchmen tried in iraqi courts by the iraqi people. again, bush has connected saddam to al queda. why will we give this terrorist a free pass? clinton, who many people thought was weak, at least brought milosevich to justice.

Welp...here go the debates! lol Lets just see what's said tonight and take it from there. Nothing is really happening yet to incline a war will even happen....just a waiting game like in 1991.

I still see troops deployed and so forth yes, but until I SEE with my own eyes, this is all hearsay. Trust me, I know the sinking feeling before war happens..I was in the last one and I see no real indicators that it'll happen within the next few hours....soon, if at all....we'll see.

I am on the side of hanging Saddam too. I'm sure everyone here is!

Surely you don't think we'd allow him to go into comfy exile and continue to fund terrorism, develop WMD, and then return to Iraq. You have one wild imagination. <<geesh>>

I think there's about a "1/2" percent chance at best Saddam will go into exile. I just think you're getting your undies in a knot over the wrong thing. JMHO!

I have the Darlington 200 on my screen now...lol While I'm a patriot and served my country honorably, I could do without the smearing going on now over this and that and just let the president tell us like we should be told. People in 1991 were glued to the screens and they will this time as well, but lets not jump the gun on probable cause and wait for the rounds to be fired downrange before we make assumptions based on observations. I've said my peace and I'll now go on living knowing that there's always a tomorrow for me and hope there is for everyone else, especially in the war environment.
