Best case? Drive to Orlando, pick up daughter, drive to Tennessee. It's a good time of the year to enjoy the Smokey Mountains......

mel, i'm no expert by any means but if i were you i would head to orlando tomorrow and monitor the storms progress on the way. making a hotel reservation somewhere in the interior southeast, say atlanta, wouldn't be a bad idea in case you decide to get out of dodge. just my 2 cents. Hope you fair well.

Yea Orlando may not be a great spot either. It all depends on where this storm comes in. One of the earlier NHC tracks from today had the storm roughly 50 miles southeast of ORL with 115mph winds. Obviously the track has shifted since then but jsut for examples sack if that track had verified Orlando would not have been a fun place to be. And with apts. if you're on the 2nd floor or above, that's definitely not good since the higher you go up, the stronger the winds. Just keep monitoring the storm and remember you don't want to be anywhere near that eyewall at all!!!

Go as soon as possible. Frances has shifted slightly south of the 11 PM forecast track. That track placed here in Vero. You are probably at ground zero right now. Sorry to alarm you, but I am very familiar with your area. If this track holds true the storm surge will travel right up the St. Lucie inlet, up the Indian River, and both forks of the St. Lucie. A CAT-4 brings 12-18 foot surges, if this goes CAT-5, and there is a good possibility of that, it will exceed 18 feet. Aside from Skyline Drive in Jensen, there are not too many areas east of US 1 that will be above water. Also if this is a direct strike most everything on Hutchinson Island will be gone. I suspect a mass exodus tomorrow morning when they revise the track to your locale. Go tonight before the gridlock, I hate to say this, but you may want to take one last look around. Good Luck!

I agree with borderPatrol2329 about the situation if a worst case scenario track were to verify. 13-18+ storm surge is not fun and honestly if you're withing 3-5 miles of the coast the surge + the 145 mph winds would honestly most likely mean you and your family chances of survival would be VERY LOW. I'd really suggest paying close attention to what the NHC, TWC, and local mets are saying tomorrow and then decide to leave if the track shifts farther south which I'm beginning to think it will as well. I'd hate for someone not his board to lose his/her life b/c they decided to foolish attempt to ride out a Cat 4/5 storm right near the coast.

You seriously dont' want to be there if this storm came in south of you. Espeically if it came in between West Palm Beach and your location. Flooding would be massive and since there's so many bays/waterways around that region it would take extra long for the water to receed after the flooding due to the narrow entrance/exit setup of the bays. Please seriously considering leaving. Based on what I saw on that map if you had to choose between Orlando or Staurt I'd go to Orlando. You wouldn't have to worry about flooding there.

I'm from Hobe Sound, now living in Orlando area. My mom lives off Cove Road in Stuart. She's leaving. If I still lived in Hobe Sound, I'd be in Orlando by now...
