Good question about the cell phone. In my experience with Charley, my cell phone was worthless for the first week afterward. Many things led to this: 1) damage to the towers, 2) No power to the towers, and 3) even when there was no damage, it was virtually impossible to place a call out due to call volumn.

Not that I have ever been affected by a hurricane, but just a thought on some things that may be useful- a car charger for your cell phone, as well as a power outlet converter for your car... My parents have an adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter, and it gives you power in your car... If you car is with you and still working after the hurricane, at least you could have power somewhere...
