closed eye and heading due west?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

closed eye and heading due west?

#1 Postby wasup » Sat Sep 04, 2004 9:14 am

I am here in Fort Lauderdale and I am looking at the radar and it looks like she is moving wet and the eye is closed. I am not even close to knowing all that those on these boards do, so I am asking for assitance here, just looking at radar and wondering.

We are getting blasted right now.

The eye doesn't seem to be entirely closed yet, but I think it's getting there. Give it a couple of more hours. Looking at the water vapor loop, the SW quadrant is starting to come back.

Course looks to be west for the last two hours or so.

I still don't know if that is an "eye" more than a rather broad center of location. It looks to be about 60 miles across. I don't see anything to indicate an eyewall on the latest recons. The latest infrared image shows a warmer area at the center of rotation but it is long and elongated with no hint of being circular.

I see due west and closed eyewall on radar.
perhaps it is just a center of circulation, but its a strong one.

Keep in mind that the radar is usually about 20 minutes old and the satelite images are about 1-11/2 hours old so any eye would appear to show up later on satalite

Its official.

Miami WSR-88D radar shows that Frances has developed a large eye of
about 70 nmi in diameter. Satellite images suggest that the cloud
pattern is a little better organized and recon suggests that an
eyewall may be forming. However...initial intensity continues at 90
knots and because the hurricane has about 12 to 18 more hours over
warm waters and the shear may relax...there is an opportunity for
strengthening before landfall.
