I was thinking the same thing Derek. A weather enthusiast friend and I were comparing notes this afternoon, and we both noted how this hurricane reminded us of hurricane Allen in 1980...except Allen wasn't this intense until near Barbados.
I never like to forecast a cat-5 because they are so rare....but a hurricane in the Allen/ Gilbert class (or possibly even stronger) won't surprise me. This hurricane has all the earmarkings of an incredibly intense monster.

The storm of the century doesn't have to hit the USA. A cat 5 over Hispaniola could easily be the storm of the century.
nationalism os more appropriate for the political board (or when France later this evening starts issuing their strange watches and gives a hurricane warning after the hurrican conditions are already occurring (as they did with Hurricane Marilyn in 1995)
