I have a sick feeling he's going to level Kingston as well. Population of 600,000 there. Going to make what happened at Grenada look like a love tap.

Remember, usually pressure drops then the wind speed increase follows later.

Does a new vortex mean an Eyewall replacement? If not why hasn't Ivan had as many as frances did. I swear frances had two a day.

If he hits Kington as a cat5 or a higher cat4. Its going to make that city that Charley hit in southwest Florida looks like if not 10 times worst.

FL=Flight Level.

Max winds at the flight level of the aircraft...in this case it is 700 mb...or b/w 8000 and 10000 feet.

A 1 mb drop isn't necessarily all that big. It is well within the range of errors of finding the lowest pressure in the actual eye. If we see another blowup of deep, cold convection tonight during or before the nocturnal max, the outer eyewall mentioned earlier should contract...allowing for another period of intensification. The outflow and water temp profile certainly seem conducive to this.

AVN remains out to lunch. It sends this thing northeast and then turns it nearly due west making landfall just north of Wilmington.

Ivan indirectly claims more lives this time in DR

#2439 Postby cycloneye » Thu Sep 09, 2004 5:37 pm

News just coming from the Dominican Republic and I saw here in Puerto Rico at local TV reports that 4 childern drowned in el malecon near Santo Domingo as coastal flooding occured there as result of the big waves created by Ivan.

There is no question that the name Ivan will be retired as the death toll rises first in Grenada and Barbados and now in the DR.
