That basically true, however, I would say the eastern half of that region and Hurricane Watches aren't issued this far in advance.

Sorry Corpus, but its not coming to your house. The reason why Gilbert kept moving WNW w/o turning is because it remained equatorward of the sub-tropical ridge which extended well westward into the southern plains

That is the type of situation you need to keep it moving westward w/o turning. In other words you cant have any weakeness in the ridge that could turn the system.
