Is the 18Z - 00Z Jeanne recon cancelled?
I haven't seen a new recco message since this morning.

They probably kept the crew grounded since jeanne is over land. Probably won't go out again until the system is back over water.

Doesn't look like anything's been cancelled.
No notice about it since then, just some notes about NOAA radio not broadcasting for a bit up in VA.
It usually takes about 2-2.5 hrs from take off to get data, and then possibly another hour or so to post it.
I get my data from the NHC FTP site:
ftp://anonymous@ftp.nhc.noaa.gov//pub/products/nhc/recon/2004091614.rcn

But anyway, I get the idea.
The 10,000 foot mountains aren't far away.
A recon plane flies through all quadrants not just the center.
Well, yes I know that. But I didn't know thaat they choose not to fly into storms over land, and it seemed to me that one could derive useful data by flying three quadrants even if the fourth were unflyable.
Anyway, my only quibble was with the characterization of Jeanne being "over" 10,000 foot mountains.

I just read on the NCEP communications status page that they're having trouble with Miami Area FAA comm.
Not sure if that would have anything to do with it.
