Sat. pics continue to show Hurricane Karl moving generally on a more westward path. Will the trough be strong enough to pick it up? Or will Karl continue to move west and threaten the Isalands!! NHC says that the ridge "should weaken soon and turn Karl nw then n and ne. Will this happen? The trough does not look that deep on WV loop (second link)
Thoughts and comments welcomed.
No worries. He's still gaining latitude, albeit not an awful lot in the last 12 hours. His strengthening increases the Beta effect, and there will be a weakness up ahead.
At worst, he recurves a few degrees later than I've been saying - maybe as far as 53W. But I'm still banking on just around 50W.
Well, yeah, it's been nuts - but some calls are easier than others. I think another Cape Verde system will make it across this year, but it won't be Karl.
I see Mr. Trough on the WV loop waiting to scoop up Mr. Karl. This one's easy to call.
