Ivan looks like crap!

#1 Postby HouTXmetro » Wed Sep 22, 2004 7:36 pm

Convection is actually decreasing as night falls. Shear is still ripping Ivan apart. Can we honestly say Ivan is back? Will it be an open wave again?

Looks can be deceiving. I think you need to wait before you start one these threads until after 11pm advisory.

Looking bad is an understatement...But as we all know Ivan could blow up in the next 24hrs if the shear ever lets up....

Looks like Ivan is battering the oil rigs off the LA coast now...
but I understand they have been evacuated.

Anyone want to make an educated guess at when winds and rain might start up in Galveston?

I guess they were re-evacuated since the first Ivan, and now again?! Oil prices are gonna go up even more if this keeps up.......

"Remnants of Ivan Swing Back Into Gulf

Sep 22, 3:06 PM (ET)

By Wednesday, the remnants of the storm kicked seas up several feet, posing a new threat to fragile barrier islands and their beaches on the Louisiana coast, and forced some offshore crews to head home. Three dozen petroleum producing platforms and drilling rigs, idled since Sept. 13 because of Ivan, remain shut in."

***

"According to the federal Minerals Management Service, the amount of oil shut in between Sept. 13 and Tuesday totaled about 8.5 million barrels - around 1 percent of the annual production from the Gulf. Natural gas shut down totaled 36 billion cubic feet, or just less than 1 percent of yearly production.

There are about 600 rigs and platforms operating in the Gulf."

"Crude oil surges above $48 a barrel

Crude futures jumped to within $1 of the record highs touched last month following another hurricane-affected week for US supplies on both imports and domestic production."

Where'd you find the above update SC? It was not, as is sometimes the case, posted on the TPC/NHC website as of 8:20 p.m. CDT.

seems to me Jeanne looked pretty bad at one time with some westerly shear. Anyone have a shear map handy or know what the forecast is. I had heard it was supposed to lessen after 90W.....

Have to wait for the 10pm discussion...Can't wait to see what they say....D Ortt has it tracking more to La and NE....Joe B. sorta has it stalling in the coastal area and moving WSW....Hard to argue with either one of them..As they know quite a bit more than the majority here do...So as sick as Ivan looks now...The next few days with it should be strange..
