This may seem trivial, but every bit helps! When Frances came through, we had charged our laptop computer so we could watch some DVD's when the power went out to pass them time (little did we know it would be 5 days without power!)...
Anyways, the DVD drive tears through battery power. This time, we ripped movies (that we own) on to the laptops hard drive. Watching the videos from the HD uses WAY less power and you get 2-3x battery life.
Like I said, I know this is trivial, but after the storm blows by, and the power goes out, it can get MIGHTY dull.
Be safe,

Power inverters, connected to a marine battery, work really good. Ran the PC, the TV, small fans, etc... Anything under 75 watts works really well with very little draw on the battery. Then, when daylight comes and the conditions subside, you can get to the more serious business of generators!!
