Yep... Florida is more likely to be hit in October than any other month.

actually Noah, this time of yaer is usally when storms come from the carribean and gulf and have a tendency to get pushed north and northeast as the cold fronts (troughs) start heading further south.

This is in my opinion except for this year why on the west coast of florida
that October is one of the scarier months for Florida.

Cold fronts have more potential of making their way into the Gulf of Mexico this time of year. They slow down which leads to potential low pressure development. The longer these features stay over the warm waters of the Gulf, the more of a chance tropical cyclongensis will occur.

In the last two months of the season, The Gulf of Mexico and Carribean are the spots most likely for development. Just as they are for early in the season.

Typically, the westerlies get stonger at lower latitudes (fronts/troughs dig further south) and send the systems off to the NE.

I don't know what 2004 holds for us for the last two months of the season, but I hope it's nothing!

Are the storms that do form that late more likely to be weaker? I hope!

Not really there have been some doozies in October including Mitch which was a CAT 5.

There was even a CAT 4 which hit Cuba in Nov a few years ago.
