Comparing the widespread damage with Ivan to the seemingly not-as-widespread damage of Charley, I'm inclined to believe Ivan will be the more costly when everything is said and done. Of, maybe it's just that Ivan is fresher in my mind???

After a few years go by....Charley will be known as the "Big one" of this season...

After Hurdat gets a chance to look at all the measurements...Charley may be upgraded to a Cat5...

Ivan, I would think it nearly as much as Charley. Charley will definitly be upgraded to 150 mph atleast. Wind gusts of 173 mph and 180 mph were recorded.

Doubt it. Charley may be 150-155 mph though.

That is rediculous to base sustained winds off gusts... if you want to do that look at all the gusts that were measured around south florida in andrew before EVERY piece of weather equipment was blown away!
Even in north dade where i live, opa-locka airport recieved gusts over 200+ one above 215+. If equipment had survived you would have seen some amazing wind gusts considering all the equipment was gone BEFORE the western eyewall even made landfall. Imagine the Eastern eye wall, which was guaranteed to be more intense on two basis'.

1. The eastern always is due to physics.
2. Plane measurements show andrew was strengthening as his eye was moving ashore!

There is no comparison... and wind gusts should not be used by any means as a method of re-clasifying a storm.
