Do you still have your rocks? You might want to put them back in your pockets and add a pair of skis to the wardrobe :-) Spring will come soon! (at least I think it will)

Ya know, I don't mind the snow and rain, we so desperatly need it, it's the COLD I'm getting tired of and to top it off, ALL of my fruit trees are almost in full blossom, it's been so long since I've had a decent crop of apples, peaches and pears. AH WELL, could be worse I guess!

I miss the dogwoods! I lived in Fayetteville for a few years and it really can't compare to up here.
We have had on and off moderate to heavy snow today, but little or no accumulation. When will spring come??

It IS Spring

#9 Postby Aslkahuna » Tue Apr 08, 2003 2:41 pm

This yo-yo type of weather is typical of Spring in the US and especially the High Country. In fact, in the Wasatch and Northern Sierra April is when the snowpack usually reaches its peak depth. Be glad you going to get wet-down here Spring is a disagreeable mishmash of up and down temperatures and dry WIND (especially in May and early June).

lol i believe there are dogwoods in your general area. There is this canadian peninsula that sticks into the us and separates lakes michigan, ontario and erie. Over there they have what is called a carolinian forest. I believe there are many dogwoods over there. Oh well. it does look beautiful here though especially combined with the azaleas :)

If the GFS thickness scheme verifies ... there's a possibility of a few flakes of snow in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia in 2-3 days... :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

he IS getting his Spring since the variability is normal here in the Spring. Spring is closed ULL season here which means a great deal of mixed up weather. Heck, I saw it snow at Dugway UT in JUNE and it can still snow in May in the Whites since I know it can do so down here (have video to prove it). The thing is that by mid May Nature turns the oven on and sets it to HIGH by June though Snow is up high enough that he doesn't have to worry about what 115F in the shade feels like (nor do I though we do hit 100F and a bit higher each year before the monsoon starts).

Your right Steve, this is SO normal for us, it's just been so dang long since things have been normal around here, that I tend to forget what NORMAL is. AH WELL, I'll be sniveling about the heat soon enough, better enjoy this *cool* spell while it lasts.

I love THIS AFD especially the last sentence!

Dennis

.DISCUSSION...HIGH AMPLITUDE RIDGE WILL REMAIN OVER THE WEST FOR THE
NEXT FEW DAYS BRINGING WARMER TEMPS...MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES...AND A
GENERAL DECREASE IN WINDS. SFC HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE HIGH PLAINS
AND GREAT BASIN WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN TODAY SO THAT THE WINDS WILL
BEGIN TO VEER FROM EASTERLY TO A MORE SOUTHERLY DIRECTION. THIS
PERSISTENT EASTERLY FLOW OVER THE PAST TWO DAYS HAS HELPED TO RETARD
THE WARMUP BUT WITH THE VEERING WINDS TEMPS WILL FINALLY CLIMB
UPWARD TO MATCH THE HGHT/THICKNESS FIELD PRESENT OVER THE SW. MODELS
HAVE BEEN CONSISTENT BRINGING A WEAK S/W TROUGH THROUGH THE RIDGE ON
THURSDAY. THIS FEATURE WILL BRING AN INCREASE IN HIGH CLOUDS AND IN
ITS WAKE ON FRIDAY WILL DROP AFTERNOON TEMPS A FEW DEGREES.

.EXTENDED...STRONG EPAC TROUGH WILL APPROACH THE COAST BY THE END OF
THE WEEK AND INTO THE WEEKEND. MODELS HAVE BEEN SLOWING DOWN THE
APPROACH OF THIS SYSTEM AND THERE ARE STILL SOME DIFFERENCES BETWEEN
THE GFS AND ECMWF SOLUTIONS...WITH THE GFS TRENDING TOWARDS THE
ECMWF. EXPECT WINDS TO INCREASE AS EARLY AS FRIDAY...BECOMING BREEZY
OVER THE WEEKEND AND INTO THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK. GFS INDICATES
THAT THERE COULD BE SOME SHOWERS WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE MAIN PORTION
OF THE STORM SO WILL CONTINUE WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS ON SUNDAY.
MAIN SYSTEM APPROACHES ON MONDAY AND THEN LINGERS INTO TUESDAY.
STILL TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE THE EXACT TIMING...TRACK...AND
INTENSITY OF THIS STORM BUT THERE REMAINS THE POSSIBILITY THAT IT
COULD PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF PRECIP ACROSS PORTIONS OF AZ.
STAY TUNED. DB
