a gale warning and a TS watch? gale force and TS winds are the same. Shouldn't Bermuda just go with the gale warning to not confuse the public?

Yes, I believe Bermuda is indeed a territory of the United Kingdom.

I guess the conditions are different in that with a gale warning there is no rain...

A TS watch was issued with the possibility in mind that if it became "Tropical" Storm, they would have been advised in advance. It was basically a precautionary measure.

Well since it is "sub"tropical ... why can't you have tropical storm advisories, watches, etc. for it? It's at least partially tropical so why not? :?:

Nice Call Derek on the matthew track from Friday. I think Accuweather should make you their lead forecaster. They apparently dont like NE Florida, as we have been in their cone of worry to many times to count. Your record is intact

You got the point there.

It's basically a technicality...

Just hoist a white flag of surrender and tell people, "It don't look too good out there".

actually Bermuda is self governing but it is one of the last of parliamentary British overseas territory with internal self-government.

The local weather service issued the gale warning before the NHC issued the Tropical Storm advisory.

I believe the local mets are employee's of Bermuda Air Services...a division of SERCO.

Absolutely ... they can be changed from gale warnings to tropical storm warnings if need be ... basically they are one and the same with a storm between 35-47 kts ...

I'd actually like to see the TS warnings go back to Gale Warnings as were issued before 1987, except that storm warnings should be issued for the storm force winds.

I believe this would provide the proper level of attention. A gale warning would be for just strong winds, a storm warning would be for damaging winds (55-73 m.p.h.) and a hurricane warning would be for cane winds, naturally

gale is just winds?? Isn't a TS warning for rain (moisture too). Gale may not include rain. Just a thought
