You may have been thinking of the MD-80,a newer extended airframe of the MacD DC-9er.Not invented when I was 9.Hell B-707s/727s were brand new!Love 'em!

No, YOU mentioned the M-80s/MD-80 not me. But since you brought it up, I won't fly on an MD-80 anymore as they have mechanical/design issues with the tail fin pivot up top in the back. Sometimes it freezes and gets stuck in the wrong position, sending the plane into a steep dive or catestrophic turn/dive. No thanks. I'll fly AmWorst with the Airbus.
