I don't know if one can call it a "toy", but my all-time favorite was a model of a Messerschmitt Bf-109-E-3, Monogram, 1/48 scale (Battle of Britain fighter) with markings from Luftwaffe Jagdgeschwader 2. ("Schlageter") based at St. Nazaire in 1940.
Second was a full-size working model (hammer-trigger functioned, loading rod lever action) of an 1851 "Navy" Colt .36 revolver made by Tyco.
Both were destroyed by my mother, by putting them behind the wheels of her car and running over them (she said the plane was because she "hated the Germans"...and the revolver model, because "[I] was having too much fun with it".)

I had a Chrissy doll too. You could pull her hair out and make it long or pull the string and make it short again. She was very realistic looking. I loved that doll. Sadly, I don't know where she is now. I looked on Ebay to see if I could find one like her and she's worth quite a bit now. Of course it wouldn't be the same since she wouldn't be my doll from my childhood, but it would be nice to even have one like her. Oh well...life goes on.

Me too..Chem Set..plus my Lionel Full Gage 3 rail track set..with tunnel, which is where my big brother placed M-80s.Kablam!
My Buddie's dad had a Movie-8mm Cam with sound!I built,at 9yrs old, scale models of Aircraft carriers..'Coral Sea' of course! As well a the Battle ship 'New Jersey' with batt elec engines. We had Baking Soda powered Nuke Subs and an Airforce of Balsa Wood Gliders w/rubberband props. We soaked the Fighters in Lighter Fluid, and lit them as they flew toward our Navy in the Family Pool. The Ships had Ping Pong Balls amidships that would burn hot when the M-80s went off below decks with waterproof fuses.Kablam!
It was Tora Tora Tora on Movie 8!Yes...I am slightly imbalanced. :o Perfect though, for a future Naval Flyboy. 8)

BTW,an 'M-80' is a HUGE firecracker(very illegal)..abit larger than 3 Cherry Bombs or roughly 1/16th a stick of Dynamite.Kablam! :o
You may have been thinking of the MD-80,a newer extended airframe of the MacD DC-9er.Not invented when I was 9.Hell B-707s/727s were brand new!Love 'em!

No, YOU mentioned the M-80s/MD-80 not me. But since you brought it up, I won't fly on an MD-80 anymore as they have mechanical/design issues with the tail fin pivot up top in the back. Sometimes it freezes and gets stuck in the wrong position, sending the plane into a steep dive or catestrophic turn/dive. No thanks. I'll fly AmWorst with the Airbus.
No number of airshows are too many; you may have OD'd on Tora!Tora!Tora! Next shows: Miramar & Cleveland.

I see..too much Tora!Tora!Tora! Yet YOU remembered to put the "!" after each Tora! Impressive!
Ahhh Miramar,my old school.Nice drive too.Possibly continue up Hwy 1 PCH/Coast HWY Laguna/Newport/Balboa Is Pismo,Malibu,Oxnard, thru Santa Barbara,Morro Bay with the Big Rock.I can stay at the 'Inn'.Carpeteria and check out the Peacoks at lunch, then up thru Harmony for Central Coast Wine Tasting,Big Sur and continue to Carmel/Pebble Bch 17Mi Drive,Stop by Clint Eastwoods' restaraunt "Hog's Breath'...Monterey Cannery Row for Dinner on Alabacore and Abalone Steaks.Drive the Rainbow Bridge past Pidgeon Point Lighthouse,San Gregorio Beach,Aptos/Santa Cruz Boardwalk for late night jazz/light rock.Pull the midnight run to Pacifica over Devils' Slide and into 'The City'SF!Cross the Golden Gate by Sunrise and pass Muir Woods and hit Stinson Beach for Dungeness Crab,Sourdough Bread and Sonoma County Chardonnay.Sausalito for Dinner and an SF Bay ferry back to Vallejo/Benicia.Drinks at the Yacht Club.More Jazz.Yep,sounds great.Back home.
BTW,the MD-80s problem was the Alaska Air Puerto Vallarta,MX/SFO loss.Jackscrew on the tail bound up,wrong lubricant for Oceanic exposure.
Salt corroded.Tragic.She's a safe Bird IMO...and I dislike Airbus Industrie for one reason. They are based in France!Plus,as you recall from the Queens NY loss just after 09-11..the Vert Stab is made of Carbon Composite..The entire Tail came off in one piece. :o
