I dont want to sound negative, but the only thing that concerns me, is the fact it looks perfect now, and its a week away. How often do we get exactly what the model was showing a week away.

My FAVORITE WINTER STORM. I love telling my kids all about it...they were born in 1995, so they missed it entirely. They're just waiting for their shot at a Superstorm! :D

Oh, and keep in mind, that right up until the snow started falling in March 1993 NO ONE believed that it was actually going to happen (at least not in Atlanta). :D

I was 14 during the 1993 superstorm and remember it very well. I lived in the northeast at that time and my area was crushed w/ over 30" of snow. I loved it even more than the FEB 1983 event (which I don't remember that well anymore)

I lived at the time in Roanoke Rapids, NC during the '93 Superstorm and for some reason my city and neighborhood got hardly anything from that system
...but was watching TWC of coverage that day and night of the storm and so envied those folks where I had used to live in Middletown, NY (Orange Co) in the se part of that state...one of the places that really got BLITZED by that Blizzard!!!! :D :D

LOL... I remember it being in the 50's with rain at dinnertime on Friday... I thought the NWS was absolute nuts.

12 hours later, there was 8" of snow on the ground and there was a raging blizzard out.

I would love a repeat of 1993 WITHOUT the power outages. I think it would be cool to have a foot fall over an entire day instead of just about 8-10 hours overnight.

We lost power for a sum total of 30 minutes during the entire 1993 Superstorm! We had a BLAST!!! Too bad the kids didn't come along early enough to enjoy it with us.

I was 20 for the Feb 1983 event. Remember it well. WOO HOOO. I worked in a hospital as a Pharm. Tech at the time. My roomate worked in Admissions. The snow started falling around lunch time (or a little bit later). We were given the choice of a room at the hospital (and work through the event), or go home.

Her boyfriend (later her husband) came by about an hour later in his 4WD to pick us up. A case of beer, and a guy friend of his included. We did donuts in empty parking lots and drank beer all afternoon long (not to worry, in 1983 20 years old was LEGAL).

Of course, I wouldn't do that NOW...but that just goes to show what almost 22 years will do to your (good) judgement. :D

Well not unexpectedly the GFS 0z run is once again clueless.

lets BASH it for awhile...

The problem is that the SEVERE GFS over-amplification bias is causing it to put more emphasis on the northern branch energy while crushing the STJ s/w. the result is one large low blasting northward and no development along the front which leads to the Miller A event the ECMWF 12z was indicating.

Take a look

http://vortex.plymouth.edu/gifs/041219060943.gif

Also notice how far south the GFS drives the arctic air w/ the 0C isotherm at 850h making it all the way down to the space coast and central FL.

http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod ... 6_156l.gif

Why…GFS truncation error.
