More Cold Air For The West??

#1 Postby gunner1551 » Fri Jan 14, 2005 12:12 am

From what i have been reading in the forum it sounds to me that the west is going to warm up for a couple of weeks. Does that jive with what anybody reading this post thinks? My opion is that we will get at least 1 more cold shot of air before this arctic air mass is over with. The temp is -25 at my house right now. so its gettign down into the lower digits around here. but the local mets in my area are saying that with in 4 days we will be at only -4 for a low. :( :( :( :( that will totally wreck the snow pack here. we have got almost 3 feet in the past 2 weeks and i am loving every flake of it i dont wanna see it go. but if that is what is going to happen when do you guys out there see a new batch of cold air coming down. any insite is welcome. and one last question. is there a web site out there that has long range radar over the entire pacific ocean and artic areas ??? i cant seem to find one. well thansk for everyone help in advance

Don't you have snow up there all winter long? I just checked the map and it looks like Kelowna should be a very cold and snowy location in general.

Whats the topography like up there?

He lives in Canada, and thus Canada uses Celsius instead of Fahrenheit, like the United States.

-4 C would equal 24.8 F, so basically 25 F. Now, if that was his low, chances would be that he would have a high termperature at or above the freezing mark. Add that too some of the very wet, tropical storms possibly headed into B.C., and his snowpack would melt very quickly.

yes that is my high temp so i am unhappy bout the chance of the snow pack melting. last night the temp dropped -30 C so theree was no melting of the snow and the high is going to be -14C. as for the area up here kelowna is in a valley known as the okanagan valley. in the summer its hot +36-40C range. and in the winter is snowy and quite cold. -15C-30C range. kelowna is right in the valley bottom. where i am its on the side of the mountain up about 800 feet off the lake. the lake is very long about 80 km long but not wide. so no chance of lake effect snow. does that answer your questions? am i reading all the infor right? there does seem to be a warming trend? for the next couple of weeks?

Well the PNA is forecasted to tank once again by the end of Jan, so that is a good sign that we might return to a cold pattern by then or the first part of Feb. Latest NCEP discussion says that pac northwest might not be as wet next week as GFS is depecting.

I definitely hope that its not as wet or as warm next week as the GFS predicts for the Northwest.

That would be horrible for the ski resorts and our snowpack.
