I thought you all might enjoy reading this. I figured it was time to check in with the expert who taught me a lot of what I know. This guy is sharp and is an atmospheric reasearch scientist with NOAA.....
Yes, it looks like at least some moderate flooding is likely. As in the NWS forecasts, it is apt to be concentrated in the Olympics and northern rather than southern Cascades.
We did get kind of ripped off in the last cold spell. The first main trough aloft dug too far offshore and the second one not far enough. Still, it was nice to have the chance; that the details did not work out is disgustingly typical for the Seattle region.
While it will be warm for the next week or so, winter is by no means over. While past history is not really much help, there is persistence in the atmosphere for a host of reasons and since the large-scale conditions came together well once before this winter, they are perhaps a bit more likely than usual to come together again. Maybe it is wishful thinking but we still have time left before we are really fighting the calendar.

It's unbelievably windy up here in Mukilteo. Just got back from the beach and we have sustained winds of 25-30 mph G45 mph. The power has already flickered a few times. The rain has let up...actually, Everett has only reported 0.3 inch of rain today...a little bit of a rain shadow with a WSW flow. Just 20 miles south, Mukilteo reported 0.8 inch of rain. I hope the power goes out!!

Anthony...You may or may not be aware that a pineapple express with a rain shadow south of its normal location is more likely to lead to a cold spell than one with the shadow further north. It also means the flooding is more likely to be severe due to the moisture ramming up against the mountains, due to the more westerly flow. This is all coming together perfectly. I am betting on a good snow pattern for the mountains next week.

While some/few of you today apparently(:) ) had somewhat of a rain shadow effect.... we here in Woodinville did not have that! We had some REALLY good rains here, and also got soaked! 1.06" of rain since the wee early dark hours of this morning. Pretty much a WET and grey dury day in Woodinville with steady rain all day long. A mild 53 degrees here at 5:56pm. -- Andy

They may have blocked out R-Dub by not allowing his IP address to log on. He should try to log onto the site from a different computer. From there he might be able to set up a different user name. He might still have problems logging on from his regular computer though. There must be some really sensitive people on here if they shut him down for teasing the back east folks. I thought they had thicker skin than that! I would recommend that he not fill in the ICQ address if he sets up another user name.

Still very windy up in Mukilteo. We lost power for about three minutes, but quickly regained it. I would say sustained winds of 20-30 mph G45 mph. Is it suppose to be windy tonight? I know warm fronts usually bring windy conditions because winds at 850 mb are usually over 50 knots. Very little rain in the past two/three hours.
