Trace of snow in Richmond, mostly rain. Winter Weather Advisory issued for the area until 6 PM, but the changeover of any snow to rain is supposed to happen much earlier. Another bust for Richmond.

EDIT: As soon as I posted this, it started snowing very heavily. I doubt it will accumulate as it rained quite heavily overnight.

Just starting to snow up in here Manassas at work. Snow was steady leaving Fredericksburg, almost an inch on the ground with untreated roads turning white.

we must have had a ton of virga here in Northern Virginia, because flakes just started about 20 minutes ago, and we still only have flakes. Not even a light snow.

That would be your COLD AIR INVERSION from the trough, already anchored in place and going nowhere. :D

the flakes have turned into . . . nothing. There is nothing falling from the sky in Northern VA right now.

Your DEWPOINT and saturation havent hit the right point yet,and sometimes when a cold core system is in motion,it takes awhile.,The fact you have virga alone is enough of a good sign. Please,do not call it off yet!

Yes, but look how far the precipitation shield has progressed through the area and we have no snow.

Precip in Richmond has stopped for now, but when it starts again it will likely be rain. We're below the rain/snow line now. If it had snowed instead of rained, we probably would have gotten at least 6 inches of snow, because we got close to an inch of snow on grassy areas in the 45 minutes or so that it snowed.

Look for that snow/rain line to drop below you when the precip starts again, because of the core temperature valuation of the system itself, it will generate its own cooling mechanism.

Snow just starting in Baltimore

#114 Postby asmithmd1 » Mon Feb 28, 2005 9:42 am

The first few flurries are finally starting to make it to the ground here in north Baltimore city at 9:45 am. Is this drier than expected air going to cut back on our storm totals?

No,it just means lesser a chance of RAIN,and that the cold trough is already in place.

It looks like it. The NWS in Sterling has cut down the snow totals significantly for the DC/Baltimore areas. I think all of the major cities(even NYC and Boston) can expect less snow now.

Pretty steady snow now in Manassas, but not really sticking to anything. Temp says 30 at Dulles, seems more like 34. We will see, so much speculation, does not seem as though much is on tap as of now. Wife says Fredericksburg still has steady snow.
