In defense of the Dixie Chicks..

#1 Postby JetMaxx » Fri Apr 25, 2003 10:01 am

I know what Natalie said about President Bush was wrong, and it offended the daylights out of me; but after researching her and other members of the group, and listening to a couple interviews...I've concluded I'm going to forgive them. Natalie made a mistake in the heat of the moment...a very foolish mistake; but I believe in my heart she's a patriotic young woman. I don't think she's another Jane Fonda. She WANTS to perform for our troops...not make propaganda tapes for Saddam Hussein.

I'm human...and have made mistakes, big mistakes, said things I regret. I did things (used aliases) and posted things at GoPBI's Storm2000 that cost me several good friends...decent men and women that I offended. I was wrong, and have regretted it ever since  You'll have seen my true personality on this forum...a kind, compassionate man that always tries to do the right thing. I believe Natalie is also a decent young lady that made a big mistake.

I'm not telling everyone to start rushing to purchase concert tickets or start buying Dixie Chick cd's again. What I'm saying is don't despise them forever because they made one mistake. I know what it feels like

God Bless,
Perry

Mine either - Chad. They are a bunch of spoiled ego-grabbing musicians.

I can forgive them because that is what God tells me to do, but I will never go to their concerts or buy their music. I feel like Charlie Daniels does about the spoiled little brats in Hollywood too! Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins are absolutely the worst Americans (so-called) I have ever laid eyes on. I am ashamed that they call themselves American patriots. I will never regret saying that!

All she is trying to do now is smooth the ruffled edges to save her own neck. To save their careers. She blew it and she's not sorry she said it. She's ashamed of the President of the US. Well, I am ashamed of the Dixie Chicks!!!
Natalie has a BIG MOUTH!!!

I agree with Ticka and Chad on this one. She gave me no indication that she was sorry for saying what she said. Another thing that bothered me about this is Diane Sawyer asked Natalie if the President was watching what would she say to him. Her answer was "Your show is not long enough." That was my cue to believe she meant what she said about our President. Now if she had apologized to him then I would have forgiven them.

wx also said in another thread that even though they made their remarks it didn't hurt record sales. Oh yes it has, they have now been bumped down to number three. Cest La Vie.

I too, will never be able to forgive the *Twits*.....I know God wants us to forgive, in the same breath, He wants us to support those in power, Pres. Bush.

Sorry folks, I wasn't trying to upset anyone. I've never been a Dixie Chicks fan (a couple of their hits were pretty good), but don't own any of their cd's/ cassettes, and don't attend their concerts (never have).

I was only remembering how I'm still despised (hated) by some at GoPBI, even though I sincerely apologized -- on this forum a couple weeks ago.
One of them sent me an email last night and said they'd never forgive me, and I would never be welcome on that forum again -- and it really hurts

Thanks Dennis! :)

I prefer Trisha Yearwood and Barbara Mandrell. If they say something disrespectful about the president, I would be devastated.

btw - Bonnie....I agree. Natalie does have a big mouth...so do I, and it's gotten me in a lot of trouble a time or two. I once yelled (as a bratty 9 year old) "Do it fatty"!! at a very overweight lady trying to mow her grass up the street....that's why I think I'm so fat...she put a curse on me

Jettmax,
You're to hard on yourself. We all luv you here at storm2k. We are all entitled to our own opinions and thoughts. It's just sometimes someone says something that really stirs up a controversary, like Natalie making that terrible statment about our President in another country no less. Shame, shame on her.

This thread is for everyone's opinion - and not everyone is going to agree. I never get upset - when someone posts an opinion I don't agree with - its their right!!!!!!

I just don't read it. Simple as that.

Good post Perry!

When the Chicks first came out, I liked their stuff. They were fresh, sounded good, and looked good too. But when I first heard about the Chicks' comment, I was upset. I was disappointed in them as well as surprised by it. They are country music stars and the majority of country singers and fans are Reublican, pro-action, pro-Bush southerners. What the Chicks did went against all of that and I think that's why there was so much backlash. The fact that she said it in London and not the US didn't help either. But...

I forgave the Chicks long ago. Yeah, they made a harsh comment in the heat of the moment. I guarantee you that all of you have done the exact same thing at least once in your life! Maybe you were sorry for it, maybe you weren't. Everybody makes mistakes.

I watched last night's interview with Diane Sawyer and what really hit me was their support for our troops. THAT is what matters right now. You don't have to support the president. You don't even have to like him, but the least anyone could do is support the people who were ordered to go there and fight.

Oh, and at the end of the report, Diane said that Bruce Springstein stood behind the Dixie Chicks. I wonder if the same peopole bashing the Chicks will boycott him, too. I think not...

I have never been that much of a fan of the Chicks.
I also don't appriciate how they went after Toby Keith. He's one of my all time favorite singers, and it really sticks in my craw that they can say and do as they please and run down somebody else that does the same. For my part, the fact that they're appearing nude on a magazine cover only thells me that they're only trying to get the bucks back.
