Thank you very much Daylily and Mary.

Daylily,

I've mentioned about a home nurse to my mother after reading your post and we just can't afford one...even with insurance in part paying for one. Thank you though for that advice, Wxbuddy.

Mary,

So very sorry to hear of your brother-in-law's other health woes, Wxbuddy. :( I remember you telling me about his having had a stroke.

We haven't heard back yet from this other surgeon at Duke...but she would sure be like an angel if she could see my Mom and what could be done for her.

I don't even understand how a doc like Lori Lilley here in Raleigh :grr: can stay in practice with the shoddy work she does...wonder how many others she's messed up with her talents in the O.R.? :(

We're just at our wits end...I'm about ready for counseling myself after a while...

See this is why you need to talk to Shawn. There are websites that we can go to, to check up on doctors. See if they have any malpractice lawsuits pending or in their past. I didn't even think of any of this prior to my cancer. But since I've recovered, I've read medical message boards. Occasionally someone will ask how they can tell if a surgeon is reputable and trustworthy. I don't have a link for you, but there are sites you can actually check up on a doctor and/or hospital for these very purposes. It all used to be hushed up but now patients are their own advocates or have the right to be. There is info out there for patients and/or caregivers. You just need to know where to look.

Here's your option. Hope it helps. :)

They also have the right to lodge a complaint with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Facility Services at 1-800-624-3004. The address for patients wishing to send a written complaint to Division of Facility Services is:

Mom has a cough (side effect from a med the surgeon prescribed)...sheesh what drug has NO side effects?? :( Anyway, with her hernia repair wound...the poor baby  ...tonight my Dad and I were at the market and bought some items along with some Ibupropen for her...and I bought some cough drops for her...but my mind forgot to get her reduced sugar cough drops instead of regular due to her diabetes.

It's going to be a looong 6 weeks it seems for her recovery period...just want to thank you VERY much again for all your prayers and thoughts for my family!

We tried to reach this surgeon today because Mom wanted to know what she should do in regards to taking a shower...took forever (a month of Sundays!) trying to reach her...she's not even listed by name in the white or yellow pages directories.

And Mary, this other better surgeon refuses to examine Mom's wound area due to not wanting overstep the boundary with this other surgeon...so unfortunately you were right about docs not wanting to cross the line so to say...we just feel STUCK with this surgeon who leaves MUCH to be desired in regards to how she performs in her career!! You always hear of medical results at times gone crazy...but you never think it would be you.

It's so much better being on the recovery side of surgery. I had two myself this winter...each taking just a short time to do...but weeks to recover. I am at about 85% back now...but the mental anguish BEFORE surgery is so much more than the recovery time AFTER. Your mom will discover she slowly gets better and feels better and can be herself again.

God has blessed you Eric with a wonderful family and some good friends.

WE have been blessed with your loyal friendship through a lot of challenges of our own.

Thank you for that.

My prayers continue for your mom's full recovery.

Believe that all things ultimately work for the greatest good.

Envision your mom's wellness and concentrate on her gaining successive degrees of wholeness, despite any negative appearances.

You've got a mighty force here at S2K radiating those same thoughts!

Eric, I was out of town from Thursday till Monday and played "catch up" at work. I'm so sorry that I missed this thread but you know you are always in my prayers. I just wish I would have known about your Mom. She's a lucky woman to have a son like you. You know that my prayers will be with all of you. I know how much love there is in your family and that God will take care of you. (((HUGS))) to you my friend.

No, this time I went to Columbus to watch my Grandson for a few days. The weather was good enough for a few days of replanting her flower gardens and playing in the dirt and having fun with Drew, my Grandson. See how sweet you are??? With all that's on your mind, you still have time to ask about me ---- You amaze me.

Columbus is a nice city...have gone there when I lived in Cincy to Christmas shop for a change of pace with my family and also one time went to a church state youth convention there which was held at the Veteran's Auditorium or Coliseum...I forget the last part of what it's called...but anyway it has the word Veteran's in it I believe. Oh and also an Amway rally there once, too, at that same place. :D Folks sold Amway from the early 1970s to early 1980s.

Glad that you had a great time with Drew and his parents! :D

More ((((HUGS)))) to you, also, Wxbuddy :D
