How well do you sleep?

#1 Postby R-Dub » Tue May 31, 2005 9:00 pm

I have been having an awful time sleeping lately :grr:
Working at a golf course I have very early mornings, right now I get up at 3:30AM I try to go to bed around 7:30PM, usually I fall right to sleep, but wake up about 3hrs later and I am unable to fall back to sleep again the rest of the night. Doc gave me Ambien to use just to re adjust my sleep cycle. It worked very well to help me sleep more hrs, but I didn't like the way it made me feel during the day(just a wierd spacey feeling) Now I am back to not hardly sleeping at all. The golf course just changed managment companys, so I am without insurance for 30 days until the new insurance kicks in. Don't want to pay the DR bill without insurance, so if anyone has any suggestions on getting a good nights sleep, I am all ears

Also I don't smoke, drink, or drink Caffeine.

Aren't there some teas you can drink? Sleepytime tea is one i've seen in the grocery store. Also a hot bath with some kind of aromatherapy stuff?

Or you could just read my posts...i'm sure they'll put you to sleep!

I do not have a hard time going to sleep at all. I leave my radio with music running overnight lower than during the day, and I am out in about 20 minutes!

Of course, if a weatehr alert should occur, I will pop right back up!

I only get 5-6 hours of sleep every night. See I'm here, and it's after 1:00 AM. But being sleep deprived, I never have a problem falling asleep.

I have a hard time falling asleep too....one of the techniques that I was taught was to start with relaxing your toes, then your forefoot(s) and then your ankles, then your lower leg, your knee...you get the idea, take each finger one at a time...you usually fall asleep before you get there because if you are really tryingto relax them it will do that and you don't realize that you are going to sleep. I still can't stay sleep more than 4 hours at a time...that's why I am here at 1:51 am and have to get up at 7:00am....good luck!

I'm similar to Ed. I don't sleep much every night so when I finally do go to bed, I fall asleep quickly. I wish I could help, R-Dub. When I do occasionally get a good night's sleep, I have the same problem as you the night after.

I have a very difficult time drifting off...but there's really little or nothing I can do to alleviate that (see "X-rays" thread earlier).

I really need a new mattress/box springs and pillow, but "ain't happening".

R-Dub, I've found that when I wake up after 3-4 hours of sleep and I am wide awake, it is best to get out of bed, get a glass of water, do something that does not stimulate me in any way and then lay back down a try to sleep again. That works for me better than tossing and turning. I would not recommend sleeping pills at all. You might try Excederin PM until your system get accustomed to sleeping the entire night.

Good suggestions Karan and also try Tylenol PM. We use it quite often and there are no after effects that I have noticed.

Me, I sleep like a baby with very pleasant dreams :D

I have heard that chamomile tea is good for insomnia.

I need me some chamomile tea then. I have the same problem. I do one of two things each night. Either a) I'm awake until 2am, and then I sleep like a rock until about 11am or b) I fall asleep at midnight, but then I spend the better part of the night tossing and turning, or wake up at 8am such as was the case this morning. I have an air mattress, so the problem isn't the mattress. Either way, the whole situation sucks.
