This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Vipir Model having LA & MS landfalls...

#1 Postby Steve » Mon Jul 04, 2005 5:05 pm

Jeff Baskin at Fox 8 just ran the Vipir on the news. He said Vipir was one of the first to pick up on development (whatever that means) and that he thought there was a reasonable chance of a Plaquemines Pairsh hit with another hit up on the MS Coast. It was only the teaser, but I figured I'd report it anyways.

Last year Bob Breck showed the Vipir on Ivan and said it would turn north, then slightly east of north, and go in east of Mobile Bay...and it did.

No. He didn't give intensity, but "purples" showed up on the MS and AL coasts. He said of the track change that it wasn't good for N.O. and of the Viper Model "It's not far enough away that we'd escape the nasty weather" (paraquote). Anyway, Viper had it south of New Orleans curving into the MS Sound and making a second landfall maybe in Harrison Co.

thanks, two days ago it was all about going to TX... I never gave it much chance to get as far as MS... still not sure about that either... central LA looks like its still a solid landfall point for the center of what ever it is, probably a moderate TS... but nobody really can say for sure.... its going to do what it wants and we'll all sit back and enjoy the ride...

That actually sounds reasonable for this system.

Indeed. I've got a bit of a wine buzz at the moment while the old lady is asleep. It also means I've got the computer. FWIW, the VIPIR, when it showed the purples, had most of them clustered in a 3/4 circle from the N around to the SW side of the circulation as it got stronger for the MS landfall. In any event Frank, you'll probably see some tropical downpours. It's hot and muggy here with various cloud layers moving by. I'll try to get some reports in later.

Not that I know of. Put on Fox 8 if you want to see the run. I'm sure they'll show it again in one of the 2 weather segments in their hour long 5 o'clock news.

Fox 8 - Jeff Baskin - just showed the model path, looks like Grand Isle
for landfall according to what he showed.

He stated that some of the models take it to MS.

Vipir is a storm tracking/radar program that stations can purchase. It computes its own tracking and development. It is very expensive though. :(

So its not a model per-say.
