TWC at it Again
Just said Texas is out of the woods...
never knew a 3 day forecast had a margin of error of less than 100NM and that a hurricane is merely a single point

Glad you posted...I just heard Mike Siddel Say that, and I was shocked!!
"You folks in Brownsville, South Texas, looks like you're out of the woods" Sheesh.
I have also noticed there is much much less airtime for Emily than for Dennis. Is this because landfall in Mexico is just not that important? I guess so.

the board activity also is not anywhere near the same for Texas landfalls as it is for Florida and nwhhc receives far less traffic for a TX hit than for a hit anywhere els in the USA
I get the feeling that Texans dont take these things as seriously as they should. After all, during Claudette, they waited UNTIL the eye wall was destroying structures to start boarding up and evacuating

TWC is the McWeather of the meteorological world.
For fun...landfall comparison stats by state: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/paststate.shtml
It's easy to see why it might appear that Floridians get a little more anxious about approaching canes than Texans do.

I don't think that's the case, but I do know there haven't been NEARLY as many topics on this board. During Dennis it was insane with pages every few minutes, it's not even half that this time.

At 3 days out? Also moidel consensus wasn't nearly this tight at 3 days out with Dennis.

Hey now, I merely said it might appear that way. Doesn't mean it's true
Not all the posters answered this poll so it cannot be taken as representative of all the S2K members, but it might be indicative of the placement of the more active posters:

When you combine the Florida answers, they outnumber the Texas places by about 2:1--again that's only for people who bothered to answer. So it's not surprising that board activity would be higher during a Florida threat.
However, there's way too many unknowns about the board membership to look solely at board activity and conclude that Texans don't give a flip

Yes... the wind field is quite small though, BUT South Texas is still in the cone of error for a direct hit, so it's irresponsible to say they are out of the woods. Even if it comes in 100 miles south of Brownsville there would still be squally weather and the chance of tornadoes there, hardly "out of the woods"
