No big deal Linda....we were already at the ADC and lost power about 4:30 that afternoon which was way early because a tornado hit the WLOX office on Market Street in Pascagoula and knocked out the power. We had generators and 1 TV and I remember him so clearly.......and rtd2 and ixolib your right...he did make the call after it passed Horn Island...a little late in the ball game...but...oh well...

We had boarded up and taken care of things....but the estimated 6-8 foot storm surge was not the actually 14 foot..I think it was that we got....hence the flooding. And yes, I know, I choose to live here and take the chance and I know no one knows where a hurricane is going to go ashore until it actually does..i.e. Elena...and we all on the MS Coast know about her.

Mary

My cousin and her family chose to stay too. They said the water from Georges came in sideways. They had to move everything to their second floor (they live right down from you).

I remember when the tornado hit WLOX on Market. My Dad and I saw one in the vicinity of Ingalls and 14th. I drove there after the storm and saw the damage to the auto repair shop on the corner, the restaurant, the convenience store and the carpet place.

I like Steve jerve on News Channel 8 (NBC) and I like Dick Fletcher on Tampa Bay's 10 (CBS) both in Tampa. They each have a different style, but they are both extremely professional and informative. They basically do the report in "weatherese" and then do it again in plain English for us laymen. I like that.

Without hype too. I talk to fletch by email every once in a while. They tell it like it is and to me That makes a Big Difference. I like Dennis too on ABC. :D

I was going to say "they do it without hype" too, but I forgot. :)

I like Fletch because he's so old school. I picture him figuring hurricane plots with pencil and paper while Steve Jerve, the young whippersnapper, uses more high tech tools. I like both of their styles. I don't watch ABC much, though we do get the Tampa ABC in addition to Sarasota's ABC here in Manatee County.

Speaking of Mike Reader... when Elena formed in the southern Gulf late August of 1985, I stuck a tape in the VCR and taped WLOX's coverage of the storm. Mike had more hair then and a little less weight, but lost alot of sleep while Elena tried all our patience. He logged many hours warning and informing us of what to expect and did a darn good job of it. I have parts of coverage beginning with Elena as a TS until after landfall, plus a grainy (cable was still disrupted) recording of WLOX's 1 hour documentary of Elena. This was before the Internet and was the best medium available. Very interesting - exactly 20 years ago this September.

It probably was me when we were discussing weather mascots.

Roy was the best at combining old school with technology. He used technology to his advantage but he didn't use it as a crutch. He was the first to use computer graphics in a TV weather broadcast among other firsts.

He reminds me a lot of Harold Taft at KXAS in DFW (Fort Worth), who was on there from the 40s until 1990 or 1991. He also had numerous "firsts". I remember one time the computers went out so he did his broadcast with hand-drawn charts like the old days. I doubt too many newly-minted TV meteos could do that now.

Mike Reader, WLOX in Biloxi, is the one I watch now.

Katherine is easily the stupidest met ever. She knows NOTHING about weather and she says ...uhhh after every word she says. All she does is read the words on the screen. She belongs at TWC.Allen is OK,I didn't like him when he first came around but now he's definitely experienced and knows what he's talking about.

Just my opinion.

I don't care for Channel 3's mets at all. I prefer WKRG or John Ed Thompson.

I'm up in the BMX area and we have one of the best markets in the country. Here, I like David Neal and James Spann. In the MGM market I like Damon Cullen the best. Jason Kelly in TLH. Brad Travis and Heath Morton in HUN. :D If anyone gets in the Meridian, MS area check out my buddy Josh Johnson that graduated from MSU this past year.
