Tropical Book Recommendations?

#1 Postby ConvergenceZone » Sat Jul 30, 2005 2:53 pm

I want to learn as much about tropical storms/canes as possible, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any learning resources? I know this board is a great tool, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any great book resources out there? That way I can understand terminology and processes better on here relating to tropical activity.

Thanx in advance! :D

The Hurricane and Its Impact - LSU Press circa 19xx. I've got it somewhere. It's a must have.

Yeah, and it's very readable.

I checked the prices and its going for a fortune ($65+). Anyone who wants mine can have it for $150 :).

I have the book Hurricane Watch

you learn a bit more history than the physics and all of development but I found it rather fascinating...

It was written by Dr Bob Sheets (former director of the National Hurricane Center) and Jack Williams (Founding Editor of the USA Today Weather Page)
---I'm quoting the front cover lol

(c) 2001 and 15 bucks US...

Jay Barnes has two. Florida's Hurricane History, and North Carolinas Hurricane History. Obviously the titles speak for themselves. They deal with hurricanes that have affected two very hurricane prone states over the years, but still good information in them.

Barnes puts out some very good work. I have the NC version, but I need to get the latest version.

A book I have is Hurricanes! by Peter R. Chaston. It's very informative for the novice and those who know a lot. A lot of technical info.

Also, check HERE. A lot of books and articles listed.
