Go to http://www.coaps.fsu.edu/~maue/tropical/ for a discussion of the total ACE for the entire Northern Hemisphere which is very much below climo for early November. Not only EPAC but also WPAC have been very low in ACE.

I know the Pacific was in a La Nina phase, which makes it less active. Also, I think PDO is in a cooler phase too.

EPAC is usually lower in activity during ENSO cold phases (and/or -PDO) but the low activity numbers for WPAC are not so easy to explain.

The ACE numbers for the Atlantic will stay at 140.68 after Paloma was downgraded to a TD.With the 2008 season numbers at 16/8/5 and the ACE numbers over 140,I believe that this has been an hyperactive season.I know that some may disagree but that is what I think about this season in terms of tropical net activity.
